How to handle a gas leak? |
|

If you smell gas or suspect there is a gas leak, you should:
- Open all windows and doors to allow town gas to disperse
- Turn off the gas meter control valve and extinguish all naked flames
- If all gas appliances have been shut off and you still smell gas, immediately call
our 24-hour Emergency Hotline 2880 6999 or the 999 emergency hotline service. Make
this call from outside your home

- If you are on holiday, turn off all appliance switches and the meter control valve.
- Do not place a bed near gas pipes or gas meter.
- Do not remove or change the location of gas pipes yourself. Please employ a Registered
Gas Installer or call our Customer Service Hotline 2880 6988 to arrange a service
appointment.

Aquaknect Background |
 Towngas
strives to provide customers with a safe, reliable supply of gas as well as the
caring, competent and efficient service they expect. We take a proactive approach
to enhancing the safety of gas appliances, with the aim of improving home safety
for our customers.
Since 1997, a stainless steel braided flexible hose called Aquaknect has been installed
with all new gas cooking appliances, as well as with our gas washers and dryers,
to ensure greater safety and reliability.
Aquaknect's exterior stainless steel braiding protects the hose against contamination
by cooking oil and deterioration from heat, and it cannot be cut or damaged easily.
The new hose design also has sturdier end fittings that require a special tool to
disconnect. To date, Towngas has installed more than 1,000,000 gas appliances with
Aquaknect.
Lifespan of the Aquaknect hose
Aquaknect can be used for up to 10 years, so there is no need for frequent replacement:
- The stainless steel braiding enhances the mechanical strength of the hose.
- Once it has been properly installed, the hose cannot be pulled out from the connection.
- It is difficult to damage Aquaknect with ordinary scissors.
Acquaknect complies with internationally recognised safety standards:
- Approved by the Australian Gas Association (AGA) and the Hong Kong Gas Authority
of the HKSAR.
- Certified in worldwide laboratory tests.
- Resistance up to 2600kPa and 125C (AGA Class D).
- Exterior braiding in stainless steel (Grade 304).
- Screw connection for both ends.
Advantages of Aquaknect
- The stainless steel braiding protects the hose from heat and oil contamination,
and thus lengthens the service span of the hose so that it can be used for up to
10 years without replacement.
- It is difficult to damage Aquaknect with ordinary scissors.
- The stainless steel braiding enhances the mechanical strength of the hose.
Safety Tips when using Aquaknect
- After the gas appliance has been moved for cleaning, check that the hose is not
kinked or twisted.
- Do not locate the hose in a position exposed to excessive heat, e.g. over the top
of a Table Top Cooker.
- When cleaning, use mild detergent and water. Do not use a corrosive cleaning agent.

Environmentally-Friendly Products |
Through innovative design, we endeavour to supply Towngas customers with products
that provide superior performance and offer maximum efficiency with minimal environmental
impact. All new products introduced into Hong Kong must fulfill environmental design
criteria. These include requirements pertaining to noise levels, energy efficiency,
air emissions and water pollution.
- All new models of pilotless water heater are ignited by a spark generator instead
of a pilot flame, thereby reducing gas consumption.
- Our condensing boilers improve thermal efficiency by more than 15% compared with
conventional boilers, while greatly reducing heat discharge through the chimney.
- Intelligent cooking appliances feature a timer function and thermostatic control
for boiling water, cooking rice or deep-frying, thereby reducing the amount of energy
used.
- Our gas clothes dryer and 2-in-1 washer/gas dryer are both designed with a sensor
which automatically shuts off the supply of gas used for drying once the clothes
are dry, eliminating any unnecessary energy consumption.
- Our Dishwasher uses less water than washing by hand, and the residual heat drying
function reduces the possibility of bacterial growth normally present during hand
washing.
- Packaging for our gas appliances now makes minimal use of non-degradable materials
such as polystyrofoam and plastic bags.
